Dallas/Fort Worth Airport: The flights cancelled; passengers affected

03.19.08 (5:30 am)   [edit]

Dallas/Fort Worth Airport: Since 9-11, this has been the worst travel days, the passengers had been affected by the cancellation of flights on Tuesday. Due to the strong waves and heavy rainfall, the cancellations included more than 1000 flights and about ten thousands passengers were affected. Nearly half of the 2,200 flights of American Airlines were canceled.

American spokesman John Hotard said that worldwide 125,000 were affected with the cancellation that means nearly half of the passengers were flying in the airline. Since Sept 11, the cancellations were so much in single day, Sept 11, when the nations aviation system had no progress was made for four day.

The spokesman Ken Capps said that the thunderstorm at this airport was an evil at one that we’ve not seen in years.

As thousand of fliers were affected and were expecting for an available seat. At D/FW travelers can expect long lines today. The Airlines officials said that the travelers today can check their flight status in advance and allow plenty of extra time at the airport. Capps said that the problem won’t be fully solved until as late as Thursday.

At the airport, in the early morning, the thunderstorm started passing in waves, it didn’t give much time to the airlines to recover. More problems occurred when both the towers were briefly shutdown. Tuesday morning the air traffic controllers spotted at the clouds over the airport. The National Weather Service reported at least one wind gust at D/FW measuring 68 mph.

American spokesman Tim Wagner said when the American’s weather forecaster didn’t see any further improvement the airline cancelled the rest of the schedule of the day.

Overall 550 departures were canceled and 123 flights were diverted. Most of the diversions were done due to the tower shutdown. He said that unknowingly they started sending the flights some where else. They didn’t know it was coming back.

Southwest Airlines had a better time because it has the smaller operations in comparative to American Airlines. American Airlines operates worldwide so the cancellation affected more than Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines had only handful flights canceled.

Some passengers were lucky enough to take off or land between the storm cells at D/FW, But some other travelers expected to spend the night in the airport's five terminals.

Some travelers were stranded three days waiting for flights at D/FW.

Before leaving home one should keep in mind to check his/her flight status. All the information regarding flights are available on the net.

The records will be checked by under the order of FAA

03.19.08 (5:26 am)   [edit]

Southwest Airlines were missed with the handling of safety inspections. At all U.S. Airlines, the records which have been maintained will be checked under the order of The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The checking will be done on the structural inspections that Southwest missed on some older Boeing 737s. FAA actions will be taken for the records of all the planes. FAA inspectors will make sure that the airlines have complied with the orders. This month, FAA was hit with civil penalty of $10.2 million for missing the inspections.

Even after realizing the mistake, they continued to fly the planes with passengers on board. FAA Administrator Robert Sturgell said that the failure of checking the fuselages of its planes for cracks of Southwest indicated him to seek confidence that the other carriers were meeting the requirement.

The data shows that is safer for flying and the prudence dictates there is additional precaution taken to make a special review says Sturgell. FAA said that by March 28, every airline will be checked with complete 10 safety orders, called airworthiness directives. By June 30, the complete auditing of at least 10 percent of safety directives will be done.

FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown said that some of the planes which are small will also be reviewed. The review includes examining paperwork and checking airplanes at 118 operators.

David Castelveter, a spokesman for the airlines' trade group, the Air Transport Association, said the FAA audit would help to eliminate single points of failure and that will make the aviation system more safer.

A leading FAA critic, Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, called the FAA move, that it was a positive step taken. He blamed that the agency was getting too cozy with the airlines.

FAA associate administrator for safety Nicholas Sabatini , she defended in a letter to the airline officials that the agency was relying more on the information from the airlines. FAA and airline argued that they emphasized more on improving the safety rather than finding blame.

Last March After conquering Southwest turned itself in to the FAA. After conquering that it had missed safety inspection on 46 planes. Review will be taken by the company and by FAA the investigations will be on how the lapses occurred.

Travel tips: cheap flights

03.07.08 (9:50 pm)   [edit]
According to my experience, we have developed a few key tips which you may helpfull with your holiday planning.

Accomodation:

•If possible, do not stay on the ground or first floor of your hotel or apartment block, as there is an increased risk from burglars. Ground floor rooms with door or window pool or beach access are considered particularly high risk.

•Ensure all doors and windows are locked when you leave the apartment.

•Before answering the door of your hotel room, call reception to confirm the identity of the caller and reason for their visit.

•Do not open any packages or envelopes sent to your room unless you know the sender and are expecting the package.

•Always take your room key with you rather than leave it at the front desk.

•Use caution when using public rest rooms (toilets) in hotels. These facilities are sometimes used by criminals to rob guests or for drug dealing.

•Some hotels will retain passports for review by police or other government officials. Try return as soon as possible.

•Avoid displaying hotel room keys in restaurants, at swimming pools and in other public places where they could be viewed or stolen.

At the Airport:

•Give yourself plenty of time to arrive at the various departure points by the designated 'check-in' time.

•If you are leaving your car at the airport , note the number of the car park, floor and block in which you are parked .

•As soon as you have checked in and your luggage has been dealt with, go immediately through security.

•Never leave your luggage unattended, particularly when checking in or waiting in a secure area.

• If your luggage is lost or damaged on the conveyor belt, report it to the airline immediately and ask for a written report before you leave the airport.

Travel Tips - Buying insurance in cheap flights

03.07.08 (8:58 pm)   [edit]
There is no legal obligation to take out travel insurance before you go abroad. But you should Protect yourself against cancellation, injury, illness, losing your passport or holiday money .From my point of view, you must insured yourself before travelling. Here I am discussing some tips which should be taken into account before buying insurence.

•Don't risk travelling without insurance.

•Arrange travel insurance as soon as you book your trip, this will ensure that you are covered for cancellation and curtailment.

•Buying travel insurance direct from a specialist is usually better value than going to a travel agent or bank etc.

•Iinsurance company must have a Claims Charter.

•Check the levels of excess on the policy.

•It is important to be covered for medical expenses, personal accident, personal liability ,cancellation and curtailment of the trip, money/documents and baggage. Other areas of cover usually include delay, missed departure, loss of passport, legal expenses and assistance services.

•The E111 medical system is not a substitute for a proper travel insurance policy. E111 can provide free or reduced cost treatment in European Economic Area countries (EEA).

•Check the levels of cover and make sure they suit your particular circumstances. Be carefull of paying excessive premiums for unnecessary cover.

•Always declare pre-existing medical conditions and any hazardous activities/sports you may be undertaking.

•Make sure your policy covers the full length of your trip.

•Check that any expensive items you are taking away (e.g. video camera, jewellery) are covered either by your travel insurance or some other form of policy e.g. home contents.

•If going on a winter sports holiday, check that the policy covers off-piste skiing, snowboarding, ski pack and ski equipment.

•If you go away three or more times a year, investigate the benefits offered by an annual multi trip policy. It will probably work out cheaper than buying several single trip policies.

•If buying an annual policy, is the maximum trip duration enough for your needs?

• Under the ABI code of practice you are entitled to full refund within 14 days of purchase if the terms and conditions do not suit your requirements.

Airline Regulations

03.07.08 (3:30 am)   [edit]

1.Be sure that liquids and gels are in containers of no more than 3 ounces.
